Youth Development

The YWCA Youth Development Program is dedicated to empowering youth by facilitating values neutral educational programming utilizing a national best-practices model curriculum.

Although the state of Ohio and Lucas County have seen a decline in teen birth rates, it still remains a problem for area youth.

This issue is often associated with increased poverty, school dropout rates, low educational obtainment, poorer health, foster care, and insufficient child support. The YWCA’sYouth Developmentdepartment is combating this issue by offering the following programs

·  Draw the Line/Respect the Line (DTL)
Through interactive lessons, participants learn to set limits and discuss social pressures, challenges to personal limits, the importance of communication, and refusal skills.DTLis facilitated in 8thgrade Health classrooms throughout Toledo Public Schools.

·  Reducing the Risk (RTR)
Through experiential activities, participants learn to recognize and resist peer pressure, make decisions, and negotiate safer sexual behaviors.RTRis facilitated in 10th grade Health classrooms throughout Toledo Public Schools.

·  Teen Outreach Program                                                                                                                                                                             TOP has a year round curriculum focusing on personal values, human growth and development, relationships, family stress, communication, decision making, and social/emotional transition from childhood to adolescence.
