The YWCA of Northwest Ohio and the Lucas County Health Department had the chance of putting on Stand Against Racism - Dialogue to Change which was a day for people in the community to come together and talk about how to combat racism in a positive way. We also had pleasure of hosting Dr. Arthur James who is a general obstetrician and gynecologist and associate clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. His presentation was about the root that causes poor pregnancy outcomes in three dimensions: vertical (along levels of care), horizontal (across providers of multiple services), and longitudinal (over time). His mission, in his own words, is to move people and agencies with shared goals" ... from coexistence to communication, to coordination, and finally to full collaboration ... through conviction, commitment, and persistence" to reduce perinatal and infant morbidity and mortality and to eliminate the racial disparity in the rate at which black babies die.
As our event came to a close, all of our attendees are now able to walk away and talk to others how they can combat racism in a positive way. We are all humans and deserve to work together to great a positive life for our younger generation.
