YWCA I Rise Unity Event
Spawned by the fear and hopelessness that the divisions in our country created in late 2016, the YWCA of Northwest Ohio developed the IRise Unity March.The YWCA of Northwest Ohio encouraged all citizens to join together and promote a clear message that Toledo and Lucas County stands for racial, economic, environmental and gender justice.
The first IRise Unity March was held on Friday, January 20, 2017 and began at the International Park Gazebo at 4:30, moving to span the Martin Luther King Bridge and ended at Trinity Episcopal Church on Adams Street.
Due to overwhelming response, the YWCA of Northwest Ohio held another Unity March in January of 2018. This time the response was even greater – 600-800 citizens attended, spreading the message of racial, economic and gender empowerment. This second march was also a call to action to all of the participants to get out and vote.
