DRAW THE LINE/RESPECT THE LINE
The YWCA Youth Development Department brings Draw the Line/Respect the Line, a national best practice curriculum to all Toledo Public Schools’ 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Draw the Line/Respect the Line delivers comprehensive sexuality education that is developmentally appropriate. Professional and certified facilitators engage students in group discussions, small group activities, and role-playing with the goal of delaying the initiation of sex in order to reduce the incidence of STDs, including HIV/AIDS, and pregnancy.
This curriculum stresses abstinence and a comprehensive approach toward sexuality education. Students learn the benefits of abstinence and delaying or limiting sexual behaviors. Reaching students with this information in middle school is critical as young people of that age are beginning to form their attitudes and behaviors, and we are more likely to reach them before they become sexually active.
