REDUCING THE RISK

The YWCA Youth Development Department teaches Reducing the Risk, an age- specific comprehensive, sexual education curriculum presented to all Toledo Public School high school health classes. The Reducing the Risk curriculum goes beyond the facts about abstinence and protection. It presents a powerful, active approach to prevention of teenage pregnancy and protection against HIV and other STD’s that motivates students to change their high-risk behaviors.

Professional and certified facilitators engage students in group discussions, small group activities, and role-playing with the goal of reducing the incidence of STDs, HIV/AIDS, and pregnancy. This program emphasizes refusal skills, delaying tactics and alternative actions students can use in order to abstain from sexual activity or use protection.
