Reducing the Risk

Reducing the Risk

The YWCA Youth Development Department teaches Reducing the Risk, an age-specific comprehensive, sexual education curriculum presented to all Toledo Public School high school health classes and in health classes throughout Allen County. The Reducing the Risk curriculum goes beyond the facts about abstinence and protection. It presents a powerful, active approach to prevention of teenage pregnancy and protection against HIV and other STD’s that motivates students to change their high-risk behaviors.

Professional and certified facilitators engage students in group discussions, small group activities, and role-playing with the goal of reducing the incidence of STDs, HIV/AIDS, and pregnancy. This program emphasizes refusal skills, delaying tactics and alternative actions students can use in order to abstain from sexual activity or use protection.
